Nowadays, when we think about GPS, we think about the smartphone, but a countless number of drivers worldwide still rely on expansive line of Garmin GPS devices, after all, the organization sold 100 million products between the year of 1989 and 2012 alone. Among that large number, the Nuvi served as iconic workhorse of Garmin, but when it finally comes to storage, even on very high-end models like the Nuvi 2559LMT, your Garmin Nuvi maps are at the mercy of onboard memory that is quite limited or your own SD card that is optional (that is sold separately, of course). Luckily, if you have still got a Nuvi, you have still got several options, with a USB cable and a computer system, your Nuvi offers a few other ways to free up some space for updates or for all-new regions of the map before you set out on your next GPS-supported adventure. For further information on the Garmin maps update, you can dial the Garmin support number, that is available on our website.
From Your Nuvi:-
Most of the models of Nuvi, such as those in series 30 via 60, include a USB cable out of the box. To get properly started with file and the management of map data, plug the small end of the wire into the respective port on your Garmin device, and the larger end of the cable into the USB port on your Mac or PC. Your device will show up on the screen as a removable drive on My Computer of the Windows, or as a mounted volume on your Windows or Mac.
Open that volume or drive to take a look at the data stored on your Garmin GPS device, including data of the map. Select the nuvi map in question and then press the Delete key, or, on a PC of Windows, press the right click and choose the option of Delete from the menu, to completely erase the map from the internal storage of your device. Before you bust out the eraser that is figurative, though, ensure that you know the purpose of the file you are deleting. For example, .kmz and .kml files are custom maps, .loc files are GPS locations, .gpx files are GPS Exchange Format items and .gbd files are parts of the Database of the Garmin GPS. Keep all of your deletions limited to nuvi maps only, otherwise, you might end up removing system files that are quite important.
When you are done cleaning the house, select the option of Safely Remove Hardware from the tray of the Windows system and select your Nuvi from the menu or drag the icon of the volume into the trash on your Mac system before unplugging the USB cable.
From Your Computer System:-
If your maps of the Nuvi are hogging space on your home computer system, getting rid of them is quite a fairly straightforward process once you know the exact thing.
On a Windows operating system PC, you need to press the Windows Key and R simultaneously to open the menu of the Run, then type appwiz.cpl into the field that is blank and clicks the on the OK button. This completely reveals any maps currently stored on your computer system, just right-click the Nuvi maps you want to remove and choose the option of Uninstall to clear up some space.
For the users of Mac, open the Finder, then Applications and finally the Garmin MapManager. Click on the map that you particularly wish to uninstall, then click the gear icon present in the lower left corner and choose the option of Delete Map. When the pop-up window generally appears, click the Delete button again and say good-bye to the map that is in question.
